2020 MacGregor finalists announced

August 4, 2020

Judging for the MacGregor Memorial Piobaireachd was completed this weekend. The eight young pipers selected to go forward to the final - a good mix of home and international players - are:

Ross Conner, Campbeltown.

Luke Kennedy, Strathaven.

Liam MacDonald, Wellesley, Ontario, Canada.

Angus MacPhee, Inverness.

Henry Paluch, Aorora, Ontario, Canada

Anna Smart, Dunfermline.

Hazel Whyte, Larkhall.

Campbell Wilson, Christchurch, New Zealand.

This is the first time that the MacGregor Memorial has taken place by video submission, and Piping Steward Torquil Telfer thanked all the entrants for their efforts and the high quality of their submissions - click any of the images below to see their submissions.

Adjudicator Captain Stuart Samson, MBE, was most impressed with the standard of the entrants, stating "the overall standard was very high and to be honest every performance impressed me in some way.  All the competitors who have taken part should be congratulated on their performances and it is very satisfying to see the future of piobaireachd is healthy with the young talent coming through". Fellow adjudicator Bill Livingstone agreed, saying that all the entrants were a pleasure to listen to.

The final will also be by video submission, with the deadline for submissions to be announced shortly.

The Argyllshire Gathering

The Piping Competition forms just one aspect of the work of the Argyllshire Gathering, whose members have been working to promote Argyll since 1871.

The Gathering's Piping Trust supports piping and especially younger pipers across Argyll; the Argyllshire Gathering Oban Games are one of Scotland's leading Highland Games and a highlight of Oban's year.
